1. Introduction

No matter, whether you start your journey with programming, or simply want to learn Kotlin as the next programming language, you will have to choose some IDE to work with.

In this short video, I will show you how to install IntelliJ IDEA on Windows and set up it for Kotlin development. As a bonus, I will show you how to run a Kotlin code directly from your browser, without the need for installation.

2. Why IntelliJ IDEA?

But before I show you the exact steps on how to install IntelliJ IDEA on Windows for Kotlin, let’s see a few points about why should we choose it. Of course, these are just a couple of points

First of all, IntelliJ IDEA is a tool created by the JetBrains team- the same company, which created the Kotlin programming language. If we would have to choose a company, for which keeping the best possible quality and support for Kotlin is in their interest, then this would be JetBrains.

Secondly, if you would like to continue your journey and use Kotlin for Android applications development, then most probably you’ll end up with Android Studio IDE. And this one is an Android-specialized version of IntelliJ IDEA.

Thirdly, its experience is really intuitive and combined with a code completion can spare you a lot of time

Finally, its community version is totally free (and this version can be enough even for some commercial uses).

Of course, these are just a couple of points and I encourage you to check out the IntelliJ IDEA official page.

3. Install IntelliJ On Windows for Kotlin?

With all of that being said, all I have left is to wish you a pleasant viewing:

1. Introduction

In this video I would like to show you 16 IntelliJ IDEA shortcuts, which definitely will help you when working on your projects.

But before we move to the clue of this tutorial I would like to mention that IntelliJ IDEA, as almost every program or tool comes with plenty of keyboard shortcuts and you should not try to memorize them all. Moreover, this is just a short subset of many shortcuts, which may be helpful depending on what exactly you are working on.

Given these points, and as always, I highly encourage you to check out this material, try out on your own and figure out what’s working best for you.

2. 16 IntelliJ Shortcuts Video

Please find the video covering all 16 shortcuts below. Please keep in mind that this is one of my first tutorials in a video form and I am still learning and trying to improve my skills to ship better content in the future 🙂

3. Summary

If you enjoyed this material, I will be happy if you would like to share some feedback about this video covering IntelliJ shortcuts with me- either in the comment sections, or by using the contact form.

I am not a guru, I am making mistakes and I am constantly learning new things- especially the ones related to teaching others and presenting my knowledge in an approachable manner. And that’s the reason why I’m asking you, dear reader, about feedback in almost every material. At the end of the day this is your point of view I am interested the most and your criticism helps Codersee to be a better platform.
